![]() like you’re answering to a drill sergeant. This tip is nice in theory, designed to gently wake you without requiring you to jump up at 6 a.m. Ah, New York City’s most effective alarm clock. I rolled over, intent on canceling life for the day, when I heard the grinding jackhammering outside my window. When Alarm Two went off I mumbled, “What?” to my husband, who patiently explained that this was my signal to rise. The idea was for the initial alarm to rouse me from slumber, with permission to lounge for 15 more minutes until the second alarm. Per the article’s instructions, I set my usual alarm clock next to the bed and put my cell phone alarm on the windowsill, several feet away. I really eased into this experiment with a tidbit gleaned from a Medium post. Day 1: “Don’t Jump Out of Bed Immediately” ( Medium) In an effort to become, if not a morning person, at least a getting-out-of-bed-and-staying-there type of person, I spent seven days trying the most unconventional wake-up tips I found on the internet. At least twice, after a few sips of my coffee, I’ve promptly fallen back asleep on my couch. I’m a freelance writer who works from home, and while I love setting my own schedule, it means I no longer have bosses or co-workers to keep me accountable for being at my desk by 9 a.m. As soon as my husband nudges me in the morning I start scheming about how to come down with a flu mild enough that it won’t suck too badly, but gross enough to keep me in bed for at least 15 more hours. It makes sense, but come hell, high water, or unmissable work meeting, I will still hit snooze and get right back under the covers for just ten more minutes. For example, to ensure you leave your bed in the morning, experts recommend putting your alarm clock across the room, in a different room, or, I don’t know, on Mars. If I’m feeling ambitious I’ll add in other products, but that probably won’t be the case haha. The internet is full of advice that makes me feel like a bad person. Ironically, I’m writing this at midnight and I’m going to wake up some time tomorrow morning and throw on some concealer and eyeshadow. I think that’s a post for a different day- I could probably say a lot about all my favorite go to quick makeup combos. Sometimes I get carried away with a whole elaborate eyeshadow look and that ends up wasting more time than it should have. ![]() My quick makeup routine basically consists of an eyeshadow (or more because I like eyeshadows) and maybe a concealer. If I’m ever in a rush and feel like being fancy, then I’ll do something quick and easy, like throwing on one eyeshadow and calling it a day. Generally, that’s on a weekend or a day off. Sometimes if I have something planned later in the day, I’ll put on some makeup in the afternoon, but I’ll only do that if I have time. My preferred way of putting on makeup is applying it when I have spare time (so not the morning). I don’t typically carry any makeup items around with me so either I put it on before I head out, or I don’t wear it at all.Īnd this leads me to another question, if you don’t put on makeup in the morning, when do you apply it? Do you do it in the middle of the day on a weekend? Do you play with your makeup right before you wash it off? I do both of those things. Imagine all the pan I could have hit by now if I just picked up that extra makeup brush… Oh, but my warm cozy bed…Īnd if you do put on makeup in the morning… how soon do you put on your makeup after waking up? Is that the last thing you do before rushing out the door? Or do you apply your makeup before breakfast? Do you head out the door early so you can put on your makeup once you arrive at your destination? I feel like putting on makeup in the morning gives me too much pressure and takes away the fun of makeup. Now I’d be fine with skipping out on makeup, but it kinda bothers me that I’m not getting use out of my makeup because of that! I’m working on a Project Pan here and I have panning goals! And my early morning laziness isn’t helping with that. It doesn’t take me long to wake up, get ready, and head out the door so putting on makeup is a step I often skip. I’d much rather sleep than go through the process of applying makeup. If I have time to spare then sure, but I will not wake up early just to put on my makeup. If you purchase through my link, I receive a commission at no added cost to you.Ī curious question that’s crossed my mind before crossed my mind again recently: do you wake up early to put on makeup in the morning?
